Kagoma Gate Songs of Freedom

In Bob Marly’s Redemption song he spoke of “These songs of Freedom”

Please enjoy the children of Kagoma Gate, the children of virtual slaves working the sugarcane fields for $8 a month. The children of our Kagoma Gate School who just finished their very 1st year of school sing a song that is truly a song of freedom.

Happy Anniversary!

A VERY happy family Anniversary to a most special family and their most special little girl.  An email from Mary's mom, Colleen:

One year ago today, we opened our eyes to find ourselves HOME, at long last, with our expanded family. This little beauty has brightened our days, filled the house with laughter and love, and given us all a new lease on life. What a special time of year to celebrate such a blessing!

Look at her now!

Hello people!

So Prachi participated in miss India New York this weekend and she was one of the top five contestant! During the final round, she was asked the question, "if you were given a million dollars, what nonprofit would you give your money to and why?"

And her answer was the giving circle and then she further went on explaining why! And, guess what? She won the contest!!!! She is miss India New York now :)

Memories of Mzee

Early this morning we lost a most beloved family member: has Mzee Balilaine passed away. When we first met Mzee, we found him  in very poor health living in the worst mud hut struggling to raise his grand children and our little loves Mwajuna and Adam. Most of Mzee's family had been wiped out by AIDS.   We were able to build  them a house thanks to so many. This house brought this old man back to life giving him hope, happiness and pride. For 3 years he was a new man because we cared. But 3 weeks ago he took a bad turn for the worse, he struggled hard but died this morning at 3am our time.

Enjoy this short video of memories of Mzee

The Giving Circle is stepping in to help one of Uganda's poorest schools: Busoga. This will now be a Giving Circle School.  We will be rebuilding the rooms you see in the pictures as well.

So, this is Moses telling the head master/mistress and children we are building a play ground there!

Ah ha! Fruit Trees@ Kagoma Gate!

The planting of fruit trees at Kagoma gate community is done! On the 27th they were planted and it was a wonderful event as it involved almost everybody in the community. It was later blessed with a heavy down pour, and more to follow since the rain season is on.

This will help sustain Kagoma Gate forever now with wonderful fruit to eat!

Party with a PURPOSE!

Last April, the  response to a dinner that Hope Neikirk and Caren Baker sponsored gave birth to "The Midwife Project." The funds raised that night, along with donations from people who were not able to attend the dinner, exceeded our goal. We made the monies needed to hire Elizabeth Arikoba for a full year. We also purchased a scooter  (boda boda) that allows her to expand  her care to many more people in and around  the villages of Wairaka and Kagoma Gate.  Because of you, the participants in the Midwife Project, Elizabeth is presently delivering  desperately needed  health care to the women and babies of the these villages.

Hope and Caren held another dinner in November which also exceeded their expectations.  Caren opened her beautiful home once again to cater this wonderful dinner (3 courses with wine and dessert bar)! This will be an annual event to serve the health and birthing needs of the women and babies of the Uganda villages of Kagoma Gate and Wairaka.

Here is a video and pictures for your enjoyment!
